The standard of tuition is remarkable and given in an excellently equipped workshop. Tommy's expertise and patience together with his sense of humour has made this a very enjoyable and rewarding experience.
- By Dick, Fethard-on-SeaI spent five months working for Bevel Furniture as part of my work placement from GMIT Letterfrack. I found working with Tommy was an invaluable experience. He has been in the industry for many years and has a variety of skills and vital knowledge that I greatly benefited from due to his dedication and exceptional ability to teach.
- By Diarmaid, graduate of Furniture Design and Manufacture, LetterfrackHad an absolute wonderful day on the 'Carving a wood spirit' course at bevel furniture. Having never used a wood chisel before I was amazed what I was able to create. Tommy is a great teacher.. really fun and gave good instruction which made for a very creative day.. couldn't recommend it highly enough and I will definately be back for more... 5 stars.. top class..!!!
- MartinSigning up to make a wooden bowl in a day became real when I found myself in the workshop being presented with a large block of wood which would become a charming wooden bowl by the end of the day. It was a very inspiring, interesting day and Tutor Tommy was very clear, methodical and patient as he paced the class according to the needs of all individuals in the class. On completion we all felt a great sense of achievement with the finished product. I highly recommend the course if you have an interest in woodcraft and a little challenge!
- By Noirin, retired.I only have limited carpentry skills and was daunted at first at what I was being asked to construct. But the teacher, Tommy, has an excellent empathy with his students and explains everything in basic easy to follow steps. You don't need any carpentry skills whatsoever to do his courses. He can teach and he puts you at ease through humour and just an easy going atmosphere. I made a really good chair which is easily worth half the amount I spent on this course. So divide the course fee by two - that's the actual cost. Also, there's a lot of talk about mindfulness at the moment. This is a real experience of mindfulness. All preoccupying thoughts went out the window and for two days I was just focused on the most ancient of wood skills. Chiseling, planing, sanding, measuring, joining - it's all utterly absorbing. This course is more than it seems - it's brain gym, flow, mindfulness, creativity and pushing yourself beyond your limits. Plenty of food, plenty of coffee and lovely heat from the wood burning stove. A fantastic winter experience!
- TomI would like to encourage anyone who likes wood or who is interested in learning a new skill to do a Woodwork Course with Tommy Kelly of Bevel Furniture!! I thoroughly enjoyed my four weeks (2.5 hours each week) and managed to finish a lovely bread board - and surprised myself!!! I can't say it's easy but I can say it's hugely enjoyable and very rewarding when you see your own finished product. Tommy is an excellent teacher - very patient, encouraging and diplomatic!! I have always loved wood but having completed this course I have more respect for wood and I will be signing up for another course shortly. A big thank you to Tommy for this opportunity.
- By Mary, teacherYay! I’m the proud owner of a very comfortable Adirondack Chair- made under the faultless guidance of Tommy at Bevel Furniture School. The two day workshop was time efficient and focused and the small group size meant that help and guidance were readily available. No woodworking experience was necessary and each of the 8 of us completed our chair over the weekend course. An added plus is that Tommy has contact with a courier who will deliver the finished product (in my case to Dublin) for a very reasonable fee. Thanks Tommy. I hope to return.
- MaryBevel Furniture woodwork classes are a really enjoyable way to spend a few hours every week. I've found working with wood to be a very relaxing and satisfying pastime. Tommy is a great teacher and always manages to get the most out of every student. Progression to more complex pieces can be quite quick, or not if you'd prefer a slower pace.
- By Kathleen, New RossI'd highly recommend Tommy's woodwork classes to anyone who is looking for a new hobby. The classes are relaxed but productive and Tommy is great at allowing each individual to work at the best pace for them. All the tools and equipment are of a high quality, and safety is paramount. I'm really pleased with what I've achieved so far, and I'm looking forward to the next course at Bevel.
- By Emily, editor, New RossJust did wood carving course 27 May 18, and created 'Man of the forest' carving. Amazing day and so pleased with the end piece. Can't believe I made it! Thanks Tommy, you were a great teacher. See you soon for another course hopefully,
- JackieI have attended a block of woodworking classes at Bevel Woodworking School and found them very enjoyable indeed. Tommy is able to guide students on the correct use of tools and gives good guidance on upgrading of skills. I hand carved four wooden spoons and a display rack to hold them in the six-week course. Looking forward to getting back to do more courses soon.
